Mount Carmel offer a fantastic opportunity for pupils to study for an Arts Award which is a nationally recognised qualification and accredited by Trinity College in London. This programme was launched at Mount Carmel two years ago and just recently eleven pupils have received certificates after successfully completing Bronze and Silver levels. The Bronze Award is equivalent to a Level 4 grade at GCSE and the Silver Award equivalent to a Level 7 at GCSE.
To achieve Bronze, the students attended weekly sessions after school and completed four modules.
- They created a presentation about an inspiration and presented it to the group.
- They went to see a show (outside of school) and wrote a review and discussed it as a group.
- They led a short session - with a warm up exercise or game.
- They wrote about their participation in the Arts outside of school.
To achieve Silver, the students attended weekly sessions after school and completed modules.
- They interviewed an inspiring arts creative (Sarah Calderbank from Dance Syndrome) and found out more about their practice.
- They went to see a few shows (outside of school) and wrote reviews and discussed them as a group.
- They wrote about their participation in the Arts outside of School.
- They also undertook a Challenge to learn a new skill and a Leadership role where they choreographed or directed a short piece with other people participating.
We thank Gayle Knight who has worked with the pupils over this time to build up their portfolio of work.
