This Year Mount Carmel recognised Fair Trade Fortnight in the following ways:
Fair Trade tea and coffee was enjoyed instead of our regular drinks in the staff room.
Staff took part in a Fair Trade Bake Off and Mrs Clayton was the overall winner with a delicious Fair Trade banana and chocolate cake. Other bakes included a Fair Trade chocolate and Guinness cake as well as Fair Trade chocolate and cherry cupcakes.
Pupils also got involved with a Fair Trade quiz - well done to 10R and 7M who were joint winners.
Fair Trade is all about ensuring that farmers of products grown in lower income countries get a fair price for what they produce. So, buying a Fair Trade product such as bananas, chocolate or wine is just like giving money to charity, knowing that those farmers are getting a fair price for the products we enjoy.
Thank you to Mr Procter, Curriculum Leader of Geography and the rest of the Geography department for all their work raising awareness of Fairtrade.
